Join in on the fun

As a volunteer, you can help bring the joy of comedy to those in need. Donate your time to residents of hospitals, shelters, and assisted care facilities in your area.

Volunteers bring with them a wide range of skills and talents that help support our cause. The majority of Laughing Matters volunteers are improv comedy performers, but there are a number of ways to contribute.

Perform Improv Comedy

Improv comedy is a great way to develop life-long skills that are relevant to extemporaneous speaking, working in teams, and thinking creatively on your feet. Performance comedy is an endeavor as rewarding for its performers as it is for its audiences, one where performers benefit as much from their service as do the people they serve. Volunteers participate in regular rehearsals, usually on an alternate weekly basis, in which they develop and hone their skills in improv comedy, and they are recruited on an ongoing basis throughout the year. Prospective participants undergo a flexible auditions process after which they are either offered a place as on an ensemble, or encouraged to pursue further training.

Other Ways to Volunteer

We are always looking for people with various backgrounds, talents, and skills. If performing comedy isn’t your thing, consider donating your time in one of the following roles:

  • Event organizer
  • Social media advocate
  • Web developer
  • Graphic designer
  • Fundraising organizer
  • Grant researching/writing
  • Board member

You can always show your support through a recurring or one-timedonation. The contributions of generous donors like you enable us to bring comic relief to those in need.
